Mezzanine

content header

The Mezzanine floor is a bolted steel structure designed as a key solution for warehouses and production halls with limited space. This supplementary area is engineered to accommodate diverse functional requirements, including assembly lines, production operations, administrative offices, exhibition zones, and inventory storage facilities. The primary components include metal decking, joists, main and secondary beams, bracings, and columns. All design and structural calculations comply with the latest editions of:

  • National Building Code, FEMA460, ASCE-7-16 (Load Regulations)
  • National Building Code, AISC-358-10, AISI 1996, AISC 360-16 (Steel Structure Design)

To ensure lateral stability, the mezzanine can be configured with either a moment frame or bracing system. The product is generally categorized into three main groups based on customer requirements:

1) Light Mezzanine

Suitable when the maximum live load does not exceed 500 kg/m². This category is further divided into three subtypes:

a) Light Shelving supported Mezzanine

This configuration is recommended when the space below the mezzanine is used as shelving, while the mezzanine deck serves as an open area for offices, warehouses, exhibitions, etc. The mezzanine supports a maximum live load of 250 kg/m², and the maximum bay span between rack frames is 1.84 meters.

b) Rack supported Mezzanine

This configuration is recommended when the space below the mezzanine is used as shelving, while the mezzanine deck serves as an open area for offices, warehouses, exhibitions, etc. The mezzanine supports a maximum live load of 250 kg/m², and the maximum bay span between rack frames is 4.5 meters.

b) Structural steel Mezzanine

This type is suitable when both the area below and above the mezzanine are intended as open spaces for offices, warehouses, exhibitions, etc. The mezzanine supports a maximum live load of 500 kg/m², with a maximum column spacing of 6 meters.

2) Heavy Mezzanine

This category applies when the maximum live load is greater than 500 kg/m² and up to 1000 kg/m², with a maximum column spacing of 6 meters. Recommended scenarios include:

  • Both the space below and above the mezzanine are open areas for offices, storage, exhibitions, etc.
  • The above space of the mezzanine is used for shelving while the space below remains open for production, assembly, storage, exhibition, and similar purposes.

3) Custom-Made Mezzanine

If the client requires a solution outside the specifications of the Light or Heavy Mezzanine categories, a fully engineered custom-made mezzanine is designed and manufactured according to specific requirements.
